A guesthouse is a private house where paying visitors can sleep, and often eat meals too. It is smaller than a hotel, and it usually feels more like staying in a home. The owner may live there. Breakfast is common; dinner sometimes. In Britain this is a familiar word for a modest place to stay, a bit like a bed and breakfast. A hotel is bigger, with a desk, more staff, and more services. Though actually, in some cities a sign that says guesthouse can just mean a small cheap hotel, so look at the place, not only the word.
