In an honest and direct way — saying what you really think, or what really happened, without hiding anything or going around the point.
坦白地；直接地
You can picture frankly as talking with nothing in the way: no soft wrapping, no going round the edge of the point, no part left out because it might be awkward. The basic use describes how someone speaks or answers. From there the word slides to the front of a sentence, where it stops describing the talking and instead warns the listener what is coming.
可以想成一種「中間沒有墊東西」的說話方式：不包裝、不繞著邊緣走、不因為難講就把某一段藏起來，話怎麼想的就怎麼出口。最基本的用法比較像在描述一個人「怎麼說」——他談這件事談得很直。這個畫面再往外一步，這個字被搬到句子最前面，這時它已經不在描述動作，而是先跟聽的人打個招呼：接下來這句我不修飾了。
