Picture a story everyone knows was made up — the people in it never lived, and nobody minds. Fiction names that made-up world. Take away the shared agreement that it is invented, and you get the second use: something made up that you are meant to swallow as real.
可以想成：一個大家都知道是編出來的故事——裡面的人沒有真的活過，但沒有人覺得被騙，因為說故事和聽故事的雙方都心知肚明。fiction 指的就是這個「講好的虛構世界」。把「大家都知道是編的」這個默契拿掉，剩下的就是第二個用法：同樣是編出來的，但人家要你當真。
