    eyelid 就是「眼皮」——閉上眼睛時蓋住眼球的那片薄薄的皮。這個字可以想成 eye（眼睛）＋ lid（蓋子）：lid 是鍋蓋、盒蓋那種「往下蓋住的蓋子」，所以 eyelid 就像眼睛自己的小蓋子，往下一拉，眼睛就關起來了。也因為它像蓋子，英文才會說 heavy eyelids（眼皮很重＝很睏）、eyelids droop（眼皮往下垂）。要注意 eyelid 是那片「皮」，長在上面的毛叫 eyelash（睫毛）。
