Extortionately means “in an extortionate way.” It almost always tells you how high a price is: “The tickets were extortionately expensive.” Same idea as extortionate: people are complaining that the cost is wildly unfair, not accusing someone of the crime of extortion. You most often put it before an adjective like expensive, or you use it to say how they priced something. It is a strong, slightly dramatic adverb, more at home in a review or a complaint than in a police report.
