Sleep, spoken about as if it were a place a person goes to — used especially about someone who is deeply asleep.
夢鄉
English takes a dream and gives it ground to stand on: dream + land, a place you can travel to. Once sleep is a country, the person who has fallen asleep is simply somewhere else — far away in dreamland, too far to hear you. And once a country exists for dreams, the daytime kind can move in as well: the place where the money arrives, the bus is on time and nothing costs anything. Both meanings live on the same map. The difference is only whether the has their eyes shut.
英文把「夢」給了一塊地：dream 加 -land，變成一個可以走進去的地方。一旦睡覺變成一個國度，睡著的人就只是去了別的地方——far away in dreamland，遠到叫不醒。而既然夢有了國土，白天做的那種夢也可以搬進去住：錢會自己出現、公車會準時、什麼都不用錢的地方。兩個意思其實在同一張地圖上。差別只在於那個旅人有沒有閉上眼睛。中文的「夢鄉」用的是同一個比喻，可以直接對照著記。
