You can picture documentation as things put down on paper so they can be checked later: not what someone remembers or says, but a written or filmed record that stays put and can be shown to another person. The word covers both the pile of records itself and the work of building that pile.

可以想成 documentation 是「白紙黑字留下來的那一疊」：不是誰記得、誰說過，而是寫下來、拍下來、之後可以拿出來給別人看的東西。這個字有兩面——有時候指那一疊東西本身，有時候指把東西留下來的這個動作。
