Symptoms are visible but the cause is not. Someone runs the checks, rules things out, and names what is actually wrong. The word is about arriving at the name — not about treating it afterwards.

可以想成：症狀看得到，原因看不到。有人做了檢查、一項項排除，最後把「真正出問題的是什麼」講出名字來。這個字講的是「得出那個名稱」的過程，不包括之後怎麼治。原本是醫療用語，後來機器和系統故障也照用。
