You can picture description as using words to paint what something is like — so that a listener who cannot see it can still form the picture in their own mind.

可以想成「用話語把某樣東西的樣子畫出來」——說它長什麼樣、怎麼運作、發生了什麼，好讓沒親眼看到的人，也能在腦中拼出那個畫面。description 的兩個片語用法，都是從這個「用話描繪」的核心稍微一轉長出來的。
