    正式used to show that the second thing happens, or is true, because of the thing that was just mentioned. It links two sentences, or two parts of one sentence, as cause and result.

    Leo forgot to charge his tablet. Consequently, he had to share one with Mei in class.

    「consequently」的核心意思是「前面那件事造成了後面這件事」，中文最常說「因此、所以、結果」。可以想成它就像從 consequence（結果）長出來的副詞——說話的人先把原因擺出來，再用 consequently 把結果接上去。它有兩個常見位置：放句首，後面一定要加逗號（Consequently, the road was closed.）；或放進句子中間，接在 and 後面、或夾在助動詞跟動詞之間（and consequently affects the organs／was consequently closed）。語氣上比 so 正式，跟 as a result 很接近；therefore 比較常用在「想一想推出來的結論」，consequently 比較常用在「實際發生的結果」。
