A confrontational person, tone, or style walks straight into a fight. They challenge, they push, they make the other person feel attacked, even when a softer question would have done. A confrontational meeting is one where people square up instead of looking for a way through. The word often carries a warning: we say it when we wish someone would ease off. It is not the same as being honest or brave; you can tell a hard truth without being confrontational. You will hear it a lot at work ('Try not to sound confrontational in the email'). It is a little formal, a little critical.
