The person who leads a meeting or is in charge of a committee or group.
主席
Picture a meeting where one person sits in 'the chair' — the seat of authority — and runs the whole thing: deciding who speaks, keeping order, steering toward a decision. The word literally puts a person (man) in that chair, and from there it grows to mean whoever sits at the very top of an organization.
可以想成一場會議裡，有一個人坐在「那把椅子」上——也就是主位、有權力的位子——由他來主持全場：決定誰發言、維持秩序、把大家帶到結論。這個字字面上就是把一個人（man）放進那把椅子（chair）。從「會議裡坐主位的人」再放大，就是坐在整個組織最高位子的人。

Formed transparently from 'chair' (the seat of authority, the one who presides) + 'man'; the chair has stood for the position of the presiding officer since the 17th century.
