You can picture a director as the person standing at the front who tells the rest where to go — the one who 'directs', i.e. points and steers the others. Whatever the group is — a company, a department, a film crew — a director is the person whose job is to point it in a direction and keep everyone moving that way.

可以想成 director 就是站在最前面、替大家指方向的那個人——字根 direct 本來就是「指、引導、使對準某個方向」。不管後面帶的是公司、部門還是拍片現場，director 都是那個負責「指向哪邊走、並讓大家照著走」的人。

From the word’s history

From Latin 'directus' (past participle of 'dirigere', to set straight / guide), via 'direct'. The modern core 'the one who guides/steers a group' sits right on top of that root sense.

來自拉丁文 dirigere（使對直、引導），經由 direct 進入英文。現代核心「帶領、指揮一群人的那個人」正好疊在這個字根「使對準方向」之上。
