Note first: this entry is headed bravely but every definition below describes the adjective brave — the senses belong to the stem word, not to the -ly adverb. Read the map as a map of brave. The picture to hold: fear is there, the danger or the pain is real, and the person walks towards it anyway. Brave is not the absence of fear; it is fear that does not get to decide what you do.
