    A blind date is not a chance meeting. Someone sets it up for you: a friend, a family member, or a dating service. The two people arrive knowing very little about each other, and often they have never even seen a photo. The word blind is about that missing information, not about eyesight. The meeting has a romantic purpose. The point of it is to see whether the two people match. You normally go on a blind date, and a friend sets you up on one. People often talk about a blind date with a mix of hope and nerves, because nobody can tell in advance how it will go.

Someone opens a door for you, and behind it sits a person you have never seen. `Blind` here is not about eyes. It names the empty space where the information about the other person should be: you do not know their face, their voice or their character, and they know just as little about you.
