Picture the name badges on a table before a conference: each one belongs to a person who will be in the room. The -ee ending marks the one on the receiving side of the action, so an attendee is simply one of the people the event is held for.

可以想成：研討會開始前桌上排好的一排名牌，每一張都屬於一個等一下會坐在場內的人。英文的 -ee 字尾標的是「動作落在他身上的那一方」（employee 被雇用的人、trainee 受訓的人），所以 attendee 就是這場活動辦給他們看的那些人。
