arrogant 講的不只是「覺得自己很棒」，而是「覺得自己比別人高一階，而且會做出來給別人看」——插話、不聽人講完、把別人的意見當成不必要的，所以句子裡幾乎一定有另一個被這樣對待的人。中文的「驕傲」在英文分成兩半：proud 是好的那一半（為某件事光榮），arrogant 是壞的那一半。可以想成它從拉丁文 arrogare（把東西當成自己的來要）長出來，就像有人把「我說了算」的位置自己搬過來坐。
