apologize 是「正式地說你很抱歉」，比日常口語常說的 say sorry 更正式一點，常用在不太熟的人之間，或是店家、學校、公司這種比較正式的場合。文法上它是不及物動詞，後面用 to 接「向誰」道歉，用 for 接「為了什麼事」道歉，例如 apologize to your teacher for being late。
