Think of pointing at a whole map at once and saying 'any of these — it makes no difference which'. 'Anywhere' opens up the entire field of possible places and refuses to pin down a single one. From that one move — sweeping over every place without choosing one — all the other uses grow: questions, negatives, and the figurative 'getting somewhere in life'.
