You can picture advanced as something that has moved far forward along a line — further than the starting point, further than most. From that one picture of 'further along' come the senses of higher-level learning, the newest technology, a late stage of a process, and great age.

可以想成 advanced 是「在一條線上往前走得很遠」的東西——比起點遠、也比多數人遠。核心畫面比較像「已經前進了一大段」；從這個「走得很前面」的畫面，就長出了「程度高深」「最新科技」「進入後期階段」「年事已高」這幾種意思。
