An accompaniment is something that goes along with a main thing, to support or complete it. In music, it's the instrument (often piano or guitar) playing along with the main singer or instrument. With food, it's a side dish served with the main dish, like rice as an accompaniment to a curry. In general, you can use it for anything that naturally comes together with something else.
