You can think of yesterday as 'the day right before today' — point at the day just behind you. From that one concrete day it stretches to mean the recent past in general, and then to things that already belong to the past and feel out of date.
可以想成「今天前面那一天」:回頭一指,就是剛過去的那天。yesterday 的核心畫面比較像緊貼在今天背後的那一天;從這一天延伸去指「不久前的過去」,再延伸去指「已經屬於過去、變舊的東西」。
