A painting, a sculpture or another piece of art that was made with real skill and is valued as art. It is the usual way to talk about one single piece rather than art in general.

Picture one object on a stand, with a light on it and people standing back to look. Somebody made it, and it was made well enough that we stop and look instead of walking past. Work is the made thing and art is the standard it reaches; both uses of the phrase come from putting something on that stand.
可以想成一件東西被放在展示台上，打了燈，人站在後面看。有人把它做出來，而且做得夠好，好到我們願意停下來看，而不是走過去。work 是「被做出來的東西」，art 是它達到的水準。這個詞的兩個用法，都是把某樣東西放上那個台子。
