The feeling that something needs to be dealt with right now, not later — that there's no time to wait. If your boss says 'This is a matter of urgency,' they mean 'do this immediately.' Doctors and emergency workers use this word a lot, but so does everyone else — you can hear urgency in someone's voice, or say a problem 'lacks urgency,' meaning people are not treating it as serious or fast enough.
