A transfusion (usually "blood transfusion") is when doctors give a patient blood from someone else, passed into their body through a needle and tube. This is done when a person has lost a lot of blood, from an accident, surgery, or an illness. It's a medical word — you'll mostly hear it in hospital or health contexts.
