You can picture 'times' as the word that stacks a number up in copies: '3 times 4' means take 4 and lay down 3 copies of it. The same idea works whether you just say it (a preposition, 'three times four') or do it as an action (a verb, 'to times a number').

可以想成：times 就是「把一個數疊上好幾份」的字——「3 times 4」就是拿 4 來，疊出 3 份。不管你只是把它說出來（介係詞，three times four），還是把它當成一個動作去做（動詞，to times a number），背後都是同一個「乘」的畫面。
