    「tenant」是英文裡「住在別人的房子／房間裡、按時付房租的人」，台灣孩子最常說成「房客」。核心畫面可以想成「住在這裡，但房子是別人的，所以要付 rent」。收房租、擁有房子的那一方叫 landlord（房東）；tenant 跟 landlord 常成對出現。跟 resident（住在某地的人）比：resident 只說「住在這裡」，不一定有付房租；跟 renter 比：意思很近，renter 比較口語、美式，tenant 比較像正式租屋文件裡的用詞。

Picture someone living in a flat that is not theirs: their shoes are by the door, their food is in the fridge, and once a month money goes to the person whose name is on the deed. A tenant is the one who lives there but does not own it — the living is real, the ownership belongs to someone else.
