You can think of a studio as a room set aside for one kind of creative work — a space where an artist, musician, or performer goes to make things or practise. The room is built around the work that happens in it: equipment, space, quiet — everything arranged so the creating can happen there.

From Italian studio 'room for study', from Latin studium 'eagerness, painstaking application, study'. The core picture — a room dedicated to focused, painstaking work — comes straight from that root.
