You can picture strength as the raw power inside a muscle that lets you lift and push — the opposite of weakness. From that bodily feeling the word spreads outward: to the toughness of an object, the force of a feeling, the power of a country, and finally to 'how strong' anything is at all — a colour, a drink, a currency.
