    A short stay in a place in the middle of a journey, before you go on to the next part of it. It is used most often about a long plane journey, where you break the trip in another city for a day or two.

    stopover 講的是「長途旅行中間停下來的那段時間」——重點在你在那裡待多久，不是在換哪一班飛機。可以想成 stop（停下來）＋ over（待過去、過一晚），就像 stay over、sleep over 裡的 over 一樣，所以 stopover 常常長到可以出機場、在當地住一晚或玩一天。中文都說「轉機」，但英文分得比較細：transit／transfer 是「換飛機」這個動作，layover 是兩班飛機之間的等待，stopover 則是停留的那段時間，所以可以說 a two-day stopover（停留兩天）。
