    「stood」是 stand 的過去式，也是過去分詞——stand-stood-stood，後面兩個一模一樣，所以 He stood there 和 It had stood there 用的是同一個字。stand 可以想成「直直地立在那裡、而且停在那裡」，所以人站著是 stood，房子立在河邊也是 stood——中文人用「站」、房子用「矗立」，英文不分。另外 stood 多半是「本來就站著」；要說「從坐著站起來」要加 up：stood up。
