You can picture a word broken into its letters, lined up in one particular order: b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. Spelling is that line of letters — sometimes the act of getting it right, sometimes the line itself.

可以想成把一個字拆開來，字母一個一個照著特定順序排成一列：b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l。spelling 講的就是那一列字母——有時候指「把它排對」這件事本身，有時候指那一列排法。
