    specify 就是把要求或細節講得清清楚楚，讓對方不用猜。它比 say 更精確、更正式，常出現在規則、合約、說明書這類需要把細節寫死的地方。後面常接 that 子句（specify that...）或 wh- 問題詞（specify what/where/how...），也可以直接接名詞，例如 specify a date。

You can think of specify as putting your finger on the exact one and naming it out loud: not 'a room', but 'a room on the ground floor with two beds'. The point is to close the gap where someone else could guess wrong.

可以想成「用手指準確地指出那一個，並且把它說出來」：不是「一間房」，而是「一樓、有兩張床的那一間」。它的作用在於把別人可能猜錯的空間堵起來——說得夠細，對方就不會照自己的想像去做。所以這個字常出現在訂單、合約、規定和申請表這種一旦誤會就麻煩的場合。
