A slowdown is a general decrease in speed, activity, or growth. It's most often used for an economy ("an economic slowdown" means businesses and growth are slowing), for traffic ("a slowdown on the highway"), or for work, where a "slowdown" can mean workers deliberately working more slowly, sometimes as a form of protest.
