A slicker is a made of smooth, shiny material that water slides off. The picture many people have is a bright yellow coat, a little stiff and plastic-like, of the kind a fisher might wear in heavy rain. The word is more at home in American English; in daily talk many people just say . Though actually, slicker can also name a person: a city slicker is someone from the city who seems too smooth, too clever, a bit too pleased with themselves — that is not a coat at all. And slicker is also the everyday “more slick” form of the adjective slick. The coat is the sense filed here.
