A shipyard is a place, usually by the water, where ships are built or brought in to be repaired. It is a work yard — cranes, noise, wood or steel — not a garden. A port is where ships rest and load; a shipyard is where they are made or fixed. Some yards also cut old ships up, though the heart of the word is building and repair.
