science comes from Latin scientia 'knowledge', from scire 'to know'; add -ist ('a person who does X') and a scientist is literally 'one whose work is knowing / finding out'.

science 來自拉丁文 scientia（知識），再往前是 scire「知道、弄懂」；加上字尾 -ist（做某件事的人），scientist 字面就是「以『搞懂事情』為業的人」。

    One whose activities make use of the scientific method to answer questions regarding the measurable universe. A scientist may be involved in original research, or make use of the results of the research of others.
