A sailboat is a small boat that moves mainly because the wind catches its sails. It may have one sail or several. In American English this is the usual word; in British English people often say sailing boat. A sailboat is smaller than a sailing ship. Though actually, many sailboats today also carry a little engine for when the wind dies, so “moved only by sails” is the idea, not always the whole truth. Do not mix this up with a : a sailboat is a real boat; a is a board you stand on. As a verb, to sailboat is rare.
