Robotics is the study, and the work, of making robots and getting them to do jobs in the real world: how the body moves, how the computer decides, how a machine sees a room. It sits between engineering and computer science. Schools, factories, and newspapers all use the word. It sounds technical, but you will meet it in ordinary news when people talk about factory arms or robot vacuum cleaners. Though actually, a lot of what the news calls “AI” is only software with no body; robotics is when there is a machine that moves.

組成robot + -ics (the usual English ending for a field of study, like physics). The American science-fiction writer Isaac Asimov coined it in 1941, on purpose to sound like physics or hydraulics.
