    To reside is to live in a particular place, usually as your home, and often for a real stretch of time, not a weekend visit. It is the stiff, formal cousin of live. Forms, laws, and polite writing like it: she resides in ; the family resides abroad. You would not usually text a friend “I reside on that street” — it sounds like a document talking. Though actually, English also stretches it: a feeling can reside in your heart, or power can reside with the board, meaning that is where it sits and stays. The core picture is still “sit / stay there,” not “drop by.”
