A recollection is a memory — either the act of remembering something, or a specific thing you remember. It's a bit more formal than the word "memory." People often use it when they're not fully sure about a memory: "I have no recollection of that" means "I really don't remember that at all," and "to the best of my recollection" is a formal way of saying "as far as I remember."
