One way to hold this word: the same material, poured into a new mould. A cracked bell goes back into the fire; the metal is still perfectly good, so it is poured again and comes out as a new bell. Nothing is added, nothing is thrown away, and yet the shape is different. re- plus cast; cast came into English from Old Norse kasta, meaning to throw, and is also the word used for pouring melted metal into a mould.
recast 是 re-（再一次）加上 cast。cast 經由古諾爾斯語 kasta 進入英文，本義是「丟」，後來也用在「把熔化的金屬倒進模子」。這條線索正好解釋了這個字兩頭的用法：一頭是再丟一次，一頭是再倒一次模。
