Rainwater is water that has fallen as rain, as opposed to water from a river, a well, or a tap. People collect it in barrels for plants, and old houses sometimes used it for washing. In careful talk it is just that: rain that has landed and can be used or measured. Though actually, rainwater is not automatically clean to drink. Once it has hit a roof, a street, or a dirty tank, it has picked up other things. The word itself is neutral and everyday; it names the source of the water, not how safe it is.
