  1. 1上針、反針（編織；正針／下針才是 knit）

    When you make clothes from wool with two needles, you have two basic stitches. One is knit. The other is purl.

組成Origin unknown. It seems to sit with Scots and dialect pirl, “twist, ripple, whirl, spin,” and perhaps Older Scots pyrl, “thrust or poke at.” Venetan pirlo is a similar twisting of woven threads. It may be unrelated to purfle, even though the meanings sit close.
