A prophecy is a statement about something that will happen in the future, especially one made by someone believed to have special insight — a religious figure, a fortune , or an old legend. Prophecies are often mysterious or symbolic rather than perfectly clear, which is part of why people argue about what they really mean. A 'self-fulfilling prophecy' is a common related idea: a prediction that comes true partly because people believed it and acted in ways that made it happen.
