Plodding means slow, thorough, and not . A plodding walker moves as if each step is work. More often the word describes work, a book, a film, or a person: progress that gets there in the end, step by careful step, but never quite takes off. It is not always — slow and careful can be a virtue — but it is never praise for energy or style. You will hear it more in writing, and a little more in British English, than in bright American chat.
