An amount or number thought of as a part of a whole that is counted as 100.
百分比
Picture any whole thing — a class, a pie, a company's earnings — cut into a hundred equal parts, so that whatever share you are talking about can be counted in those parts. A percentage is a share measured on that fixed ruler of 100. Once your share is measured that way, it is easy to compare it with any other share, however big or small the two wholes were.
可以想成先把一個整體——一個班級、一塊派、公司一年賺的錢——切成一百等份，再問「我們講的那一份，佔幾份？」percentage 就是用這把「以一百為底」的尺量出來的份額。量成這樣以後，兩件大小差很多的事也能放在一起比：一班 30 人和一校 900 人，講百分比就對得起來了。
