To perambulate is to walk around a place, usually slowly, and often just for pleasure — a stroll, not a rush. You might perambulate the gardens, or perambulate about the old town. The word is old-fashioned and rather formal; almost nobody says it in normal talk. A friend would say walk, stroll, or wander. You will meet it in older books, in jokes that sound grand, or in legal language about walking the edges of a piece of land. Though actually, it is not a different kind of walking. It is the same walking, dressed in a Latin coat.
