Pectorals are the two big muscles on the front of your chest. Trainers, doctors, and biology teachers use this word; in the gym, people usually shorten it to pecs. You push, hug, and lift with these muscles. The word is almost always plural, because you have one on each side. Though actually, in very careful talk someone might say “the left pectoral,” but everyday English still prefers pecs or “chest.”
