    「outage」是美式英文裡「服務暫時停掉的那段時間」——最常見是 power outage（停電）。英式英文常說 power cut。核心畫面可以想成「服務暫時停了的那一段時間」：電、水、網路都可能有 outage。口語也可以說 the power went out（停電了）；outage 比較像新聞、公告、說明裡會用的名詞。

Picture the lights going off and staying off for two hours. The word does not name the fault and it does not name the darkness — it names the stretch of time when the service was not there. That is why you can measure it: a four-hour outage.
